July 2008

Tuesday 7/1: Intro to Plant Teachers

This class will introduce various ways to connect with plants on both a physical and spiritual level. We will learn ways to communicate with Plant Spirits and to understand plants on a deeper level through the concepts of the Doctrine of Signatures, organoleptics, intuition, meditation, and dreaming. We will do an in-depth meditation with one plant, as we explore other modes of "seeing" and the intelligence of the heart and its role as an organ of perception. This will be a great opportunity to deepen your relationship with one of the Northwest's major medicinal herbs. 7:30-9:30PM $25

Location: The Herb Shoppe, 3327 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
Class size: 12 (pre-registration required, call or email Scott to secure your place!)

Monday 7/14: Healing with Plant Spirits

Working with plants on the level of essence is a highly personal experience. The "healer" can be a conduit for the healing energy of the universe and a holder of awareness for those seeking healing, but really he/she does nothing more than create and hold a safe, grounded space for others to do their own healing work. In this class we will learn to work with Plant Spirits in a way that supports the healing work of others. We will discuss the body's innate healing wisdom and learn ways to establish relationships with Plant Teachers in a way that engenders a deep and true healing that reconnects the soul with the greater spirit. 7:30-9:30PM $25

Location: The Herb Shoppe, 3327 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
Class size: 12 (pre-registration required, call or email Scott to secure your place!)

Thursday 7/17: Special Full Moon Plant Meditation

Join us in celebrating July's Full Moon! This time is often ripe for making transitions in one's life. We will sit and meditate with a plant that has a particular lunar affinity and can help us to connect with and get in touch with the healing energy of the Moon. 7:30-9:30PM $15

Location: The Herb Shoppe, 3327 SE Hawthorne Blvd.

Tuesday 7/29: Making Medicinal Plant Tinctures

Create your own self-sufficient pharmacy. We will discuss folk and scientific tincturing methods, harvesting guidelines, solubility factors, dosages, and more. 7:30-9:30PM $25

Location: The Herb Shoppe, 3327 SE Hawthorne Blvd.

Join us for an exploration of the healing power of plants. Working with Plant Teachers can be useful for anyone wanting to develop a deeper relationship with the Self or as a means of furthering one's connection with the spirit world in general. The many health issues we encounter are really avenues to guide us toward an initiation into our true selves. Working with plants can help us transform these "blockages" and foster our continuing spiritual unfoldment in the quest for wholeness, balance, self-acceptance, and empowerment.

June 28-29: Medicinal Plants of the Ancient Forest

The intact ancient forest of Opal Creek provides the perfect habitat for many Pacific Northwest medicinal plant species to bloom and flourish. Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center is very excited to host Scott Kloos, faculty member of the Elderberry School of Botanical Medicine, as our instructor for this course. Scott has been studying and researching the native plants of the Pacific NW for over ten years. In addition to many years of self study, he has worked at the Herb Pharm in Williams, OR and has studied with Christopher Hobbs. Join us for a weekend exploring the amazing plant diversity of the ancient forest. We'll hike and identify native plants, focusing on their medicinal, nutritional, and ecological values. We will discuss the basics of herbal actions on the body, learn respectful wildcrafting methods, make herbal preparations, and talk about herbs for common imbalances. All overnight workshops include meals, luggage shuttle, and accommodations in the historic mining town of Jawbone Flats. $120

Please call the Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center office at 503-892-2782 or email the Registrar at registrar@opalcreek.org with questions or to register for this workshop.
